This is a call out to all UTS academics, creatives and Industry partners who want to unleash the paper inside of them that they have not had the time or the courage to write.
The R+ amp funds will be used to host a writing retreat for academics across all disciplines, facilitated by academics and creative writers from the School of Education and Communication at UTS, who will devise a program where participants can practice the different creative writing skills. Participants will develop multiple skills: to craft a topic of interest and significance to readers; develop credibility through writing that contains thick description and self-reflexivity; and explore aesthetic and creative forms of representation such as poetry, script writing, performance and narrative writing. The workshop will be split into mini-tutorials, discussions of creative literature (both academic and non-academic), individual writing sessions, peer to peer group conferences and sharing sessions. At the culmination of the workshop, attendees will produce a piece of writing that they can develop into a possible research publication. They will also explore ways to integrate creative writing into future research training and staff development opportunities.
Expected outcomes
- Kick start opportunities for academic writers to explore a variety of creative writing strategies to potentially increase their publication reach and output.
- Create dynamic communities of practice that involves rich collaboration between academics across different disciplines.
- Inspire participating academics to produce a creative piece of writing at the culmination of the workshop that can potentially lead to an academic publication.
- Activate a model of professional development that enables academics to develop their writing skills and to develop their publication profile.
